The seeding games did not deliver the results we had hoped for; however, considering this was our first season stepping up to 11-a-side football, I remained encouraged by the team’s performance and optimistic about the season ahead.
Our concerns grew after the first league game, which resulted in a 14–2 defeat. Naturally, this led to doubts about whether we were ready for the demands of the division. Like many coaches would recognise, this prompted a period of reflection and overthinking. However, instead of dwelling on the result, we chose to take decisive action.
At the very next training session, we came together as a group to openly discuss the performance—what went wrong, and importantly, what needed to change. As a collective, we agreed it was time to reset and raise our standards. We spoke about the example we wanted to set, particularly as one of the older age groups training alongside others, and committed to improving both individually and as a team.
From that moment forward, the team spirit and togetherness improved immediately. The players bought into the new mindset, and the impact was clear. Performances became more consistent, and results followed. We built momentum and confidence, ultimately putting together an outstanding run of nine consecutive wins.
The season came down to a final, decisive game against Meadow Sports. Knowing they had just won a cup against a team from higher divisions, it was always going to be a significant challenge. While there were doubts, the players showed incredible belief and determination—and delivered when it mattered most. Securing the win meant we achieved our goal and were crowned champions.
Reflecting on the season, one key lesson stands out: we often learn far more from defeat than from victory. In hindsight, that heavy opening loss played a crucial role in shaping our resilience, unity, and ultimately our success.
This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support and commitment of the parents. Their trust and encouragement allowed us to focus fully on developing the team.
A special thank you also goes to the linesmen, whose contributions are vital in making every game possible.
Finally, immense credit goes to the players. Their commitment, effort, and hard work throughout the season have been outstanding, and they thoroughly deserve the success they have achieved.
